Discover Kanata: A Thriving Ottawa Suburb with Urban Amenities and Stunning Greenspace
In this blog we will explore the different neighbourhoods of Kanata; all of which get a fantastic walk score, have great transit, low crime rates and are loved by all local residents.
Perfect for families, perfect for all
Once thought of as a place for families, Kanata is now regarded as the perfect location if you want a property on a larger lot, with an established garden and surrounded by multiple trails and green space. We encourage you to take a walk through the Trans Canada Trail and the South March Highland Trails, a treasured area of biodiversity.
If you are moving to Ottawa and want to buy in an area that has everything you could possibly need in one place, 20 minutes from the downtown core, Kanata could be your next home. For our clients with children, Kanata’s many schools are held in high regard.
COVID has and will continue to have an impact on how we choose to live, work from home and value green space when buying a home.
Beaverbrook
Beaverbrook is the oldest neighbourhood in Kanata, designed to be a planned garden community which is evident with the lush greenery and established trees that guard the resident’s privacy and create a community feel. This area is perfect if you want walking and biking trails at your front door, excellent community facilities and large parks, perfect for the whole family.
One of the Chell Team’s favourite things about this Ottawa neighbourhood is the mixture of architecture. Most of the homes were built in the 1970s; incredible open concept designs full of light. You will also easily find bungalows, single detached, two-storey and split-level properties; there really is a style to suit everyone. Chell Team client favourites:
- Treat: Enjoy a delicious cone at Brett’s Ice Cream
- Eat: Locals love the delicious food at Sabai Thai
- Play: Beat the heat at Beaverbook Outdoor Pool
Katimavik/ Glen Cairn
This neighbourhood is in the heart of Kanata, and perfect if you enjoy sports as you are close to the Sensplex sports complex (where locals often meet an Ottawa Senator off duty), the Kanata Rec Centre, and the Kanata Leisure Centre and Wave Pool (with a two-storey water slide) and four ice pads.
Pathways connect residents across the neighbourhood to groceries, restaurants, banks, spas, and health services, so you can easily accomplish a lot on foot or by bike if you prefer to leave the car at home.
Katimavik/ Hazeldean was established in the 1960s which is attractive to our buyers who want a home that has a large lot, mature garden and trees and the opportunity to add value with some renovations and updates. If you love a large private garden, with or without a pool, this could be the area for you. Chell Team client favourites:
- Treat: Enjoy some time off at the Blossom Spa
- Eat: After Fika head to the Strawberry Blonde Bakery to enjoy a sweet treat
- Play: Year-round fun at Walter Baker Park (tobogganing hill, a splash pad, and a recreation complex)

Bridlewood
This is another neighbourhood that is served by multiple pathways that connect residents to excellent sports facilities including a skate park, soccer fields and baseball diamonds. We often see clients sharing a drink and a well-earned appetizer at one of the nearby pubs and catching up with friends after activities; this area has a real sense of community. Chell Team client favourites:
- Treat: Take some ‘me time’ at the stunning Fika Beauty
- Eat: Catch up over some delicious craft burgers at The Works
- Play: Take in some wildlife at Stony Swamp
Morgan’s Grant / Kanata North
This neighbourhood is one of the newer in Kanata and is a very convenient place to live if you are employed in ‘Silicon Valley north’ where you can work, enjoy a round of golf at the Marshes golf course and still be home in time for a soccer match or basketball game with the family at one of the local fields and recreation centres.
Similar to Bridlewood, our clients enjoy the walking trails, larger lots than they could achieve downtown, while still having nearby access to quality amenities. Chell Team client favourites:
- Treat: Get pampered at the Brookstreet Hotel’s Au Naturel Spa
- Eat: Fabulous roman style pizza and gelato by the brother-sister team at Farinella Eats
- Play: Take a hike to walk off the pizza at South March Highland Trails
