Regular Ottawa Halloween events – like trick or treating and Halloween parties are not advised this year due to slowing the spread of the infections as advised by the Ottawa Public Health. This year, a different kind of Halloween doesn’t have to put a damper on your family’s spirits. There are plenty of great ideas to support a safe and fun October 31st in our neighbourhoods and around Ottawa. Here are a few examples.

Safe Ottawa Halloween Events for the Family

1. Take a Haunted Drive

Check out Ottawa’s only haunted drive! It is a haunted drive-through experience at the Wesley Clover Parks Campgrounds. The same group that created the summer drive-in.

The event includes live actors, special effects, lighting, and sound that is sure scare (and delight) everyone.

2. Pumpkin Fest

A Halloween playground including mazes, wagon rides, contents, and fun on a farm during the day.

Located at Proulx Maple & Berry Farm   Open select weekends and weekdays – Until Oct. 31, 2020. Check their link for details and times

Please note – the usual nighttime event – Screamers – A haunting experience is cancelled this year.

3. Enter the Kitchissippi Ward Spooky Halloween Contest

Kitchissippi ward hosts a contest for homeowners for the best-decorated home exterior – the scarier, the better!

Kids can get in on the action and vote for the scariest house by submitting a photo to City Councillor Jeff Leiper.

Enter to win for your special box of chocolates for a homeowner and a child.  If more than one child chooses the winning home there could be multiple winners.

4. The Ottawa Senators -Sparty’s Safe and Not So Scary Halloween Party

The Senators Community Foundation and the Ottawa Senators, are holding its version of a safe, child-friendly, and socially distanced Ottawa Halloween event in the Canadian Tire Centre parking lot. The event is Saturday, Oct. 31, between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and admission is free. The club is working closely with the city, the province, and Ottawa public health to make it a safe and fun event.

5. The Virtual Community Halloween Party

Ottawa East’s community activity group is hosting a virtual Halloween party on October 31st. The event is free. There is something for all ages for kids, including creepy storytime readings, zombie makeup workshops, and a showcase of costumes.

6. The Haunting Season, Fright Fest, and Campfire Nights

The 29th Annual Haunting Season is underway now until November 1st at Saunders Farm.

Daytime for younger kids and parents include hayrides, mazes, puppet shows, play structures, jumbo pillows and The Coven (a spooky outdoor trail).

Nightime Fright Fest for older kids and adults include:  Signature events include the Haunted Hayride, The Coven, and The Shambles. You’ll also enjoy street theatre, farm-fresh food, and craft beverages. This event is not recommended for children under 10.

7. Halloween Cookies, Special Treats, or Decorate Your Own
