One of Ottawa’s most iconic landmarks, the Library of Parliament, wasn’t completed until 1876—five years after its official founding by Act on June 1, 1871!

Despite delays, architectural challenges, and the task of constructing the largest all-steel dome in North America, the result was nothing short of stunning.

🌟 Originally topped with green and purple slate tiles, the roof was later replaced with its now-distinct copper cladding after powerful winds (possibly a tornado!) tore the tiles off in 1888 🌪️

Next time you walk by Parliament Hill, just imagine what it looked like back then!
